Answer

What Is IEEE/UL 2933 TIPPSS?

IEEE/UL 2933:2024 is the Standard for Clinical Internet of Things (IoT) Data and Device Interoperability with TIPPSS: Trust, Identity, Privacy, Protection, Safety, and Security. It is the foundational engineering-layer framework for trustworthy AI in clinical IoT and connected health, and the standard TTIC's leadership co-chairs.

Why It Matters

A shared baseline, not a vacuum

IEEE/UL 2933 and HSCC's Model Contract Language for Medtech Cybersecurity (MC2) give the field a shared baseline instead of a vacuum. Health systems, medtech vendors, and cybersecurity leaders can point to a single standard when they need one, instead of each institution inventing its own definition of trustworthy AI from scratch.

How It Works

Working group leadership

The Overall Working Group Chair is Florence Hudson. Mitch Parker (Co-Founder, TTIC) serves as Vice Chair. Sherri Douville (Founder & Chair, TTIC) co-chairs the Trust and Identity Subgroup. TIPPSS is a cross-standard safety model designed to guide the responsible development and deployment of AI in healthcare and other critical sectors; IEEE/UL 2933 embeds TIPPSS principles so that connected medical devices, including those powered by AI, are secure, interoperable, and trustworthy across hospital systems, EHRs, and wearable technologies.

Evidence and Examples

Where it has been cited

IEEE/UL 2933 is cited in Clause 48 of HSCC's Model Contract Language for Medtech Cybersecurity (MC2) v2, among the standards a supplier may reference in its attestation. CHIME's AI Principles document cites IEEE/UL 2933-2024 directly and separately references TTIC by name among the frameworks it says align with IEEE/UL 2933, OWASP GenAI, NIST AI RMF, and ISO/IEC 42001. The standard's authors, including Mitch Parker and Sherri Douville, received the IEEE Standards Association Emerging Technology Award for its co-authorship.

TTIC's Role

Reference implementation

TTIC leadership holds working-group roles on the standard, and Medigram's Darwin serves as its reference implementation in production, independently verified at the highest recorded Praxen behavioral score to date.
